I agree with this Sabra. Are you aware of any guidelines that could help citizens better use their freedom of expression?

I think there is a misunderstanding in society of what freedom of expression is and what it is not, especially in terms of the Human Rights and Freedoms context.  Society needs to be better informed on how to use Freedom of Expression and not rely on misinformation or the floor standard as set out by social media.

I will have to search my archives for that document, because I adopted this understanding a good 10 years ago. ;-)

Meanwhile, let's remember that a vision statement explains what an organization wants to achieve in the future.

A not-for-profit organization is not there to make money; it is there to meet a need. Can this need be completely met? If so, then yes, it is possible to create a future where the need for the services the organization provides is not needed anymore.

Ex: A local literacy group vision statements could be : "A city where everyone knows how to read and write."

"A vision statement is a statement that describes the conditions in which an organization is not needed anymore."

I have never seen "vision" described this way, i.e., "in which an organization is not needed anymore."  -- Do you have a reference for that definition?

I have some thoughts on the wording but, first, I need to understand and, I suppose, accept what you mean by "vision".

Naturally,  ;D I voted yes.  8)

The main reason stems from the fact that we were never told:

  • What our role was as citizens and
  • What this society we lived in was.

Hence we do not know what knowledge we need to possess and what skills we need to develop in order to efficiently play our role of citizens in our societies.

PROPOSITION

I propose that we adapt our educational system so that its mission is to:

Quotehelp our children acquire the necessary knowledge and develop the appropriate skills so that when they graduate they are competent citizens.

This means that they will be

  • competent towards themselves,
  • competent towards others
  • competent towards their societies

C&S' Home Page / Re: Our home page. Please read...
Last post by Denis Pageau - May 08, 2022, 07:14 AM
I have written the home page to identify the two core objectives of C&S: help citizens:

  • Better understand their role,
  • Better understand how they can improve their societies.

What do you think?

Do you like it? Could it be improved? If so, how?

I answered definitively yes. Our democratic systems must be transformed to solve all these problems.

  • Electoral list - An electoral list is like a shareholder list; it should always be up to date.
  • Electoral districts - Electoral districts should be designed in order to facilitate the functioning and development of the local collectivity it deserves and facilitate relations with citizens. It should not be designed to assure the election of a political party. Hence its design should be neutral.
  • Political parties - We should find an electoral system where we elect independent representatives, not representative of political parties.
  • Money -  We should adopt a free electoral system where candidates are elected on the basis of their competency to represent their fellow citizen, not to raise money.

I do think we do not use our freedom of expression constructively. I am :

For a freedom of expression free from oppression.

If people can't communicate an idea without oppressing others, then they do not master their subject.

What do you think?

Should we find an approach that would encourage people to use their freedom of expression positively and dissuade them from oppressing others?

How to be read.

  1. Use our definitions
  2. Use simple words
  3. Use small sentences
  4. Share one idea per small paragraph.
